Record the complete message and printer identity

Write down the full text, symbols, numbers, light pattern, and sequence shown by the printer, including punctuation or a letter prefix. Photograph the display only if doing so is safe and the image contains no private document or account information. Record the exact model and any variant or series marking from the label or information page. The same code number can have different meanings on different models.

Also note what happened immediately before the message: a print job, paper change, cartridge replacement, power interruption, transport, cleaning, or network change. Do not return a device with a recurring safety or hardware warning to normal use merely because a message temporarily disappeared. Safe, model-specific support is the appropriate next step.
