HP Printer Troubleshooting Checklist

Most HP printer problems fall into five categories: connectivity, paper feeding, print quality, ink/toner, and firmware. This checklist solves the majority of them.

Connectivity: cannot find printer on network

Power-cycle the printer and the router. Re-run the HP Smart setup. Make sure phone and printer are on the same 2.4 GHz network. Disable client isolation on your router.

Paper feeding: jams or no-pickup

Open the rear door, gently pull the jammed sheet in the direction of paper travel. Fan a fresh stack of paper before loading to break static.

Print quality: streaks, banding, missing colour

Run the cleaning cycle from HP Smart twice. If banding remains, check ink/toner levels and replace any cartridge under 10 percent.

Firmware: error codes

Note the exact error code on the panel, then visit HP Smart -> Printer -> Tools -> Firmware Update. Most error codes clear after a firmware refresh.
